Review: Mega Man StarForce

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

Hours played: ~ 3-4 hours

I’m going to start off this review with a disclaimer which is that I absolutely adored the Mega Man Battle Network (MMBN) series on the GBA. This, of course, is going to have much bearing on my review of the new StarForce (SF) games, because they are the spiritual successors to the Battle Network games.

The games essentially operate in the exact same way as the MMBN. You control a human who has a virtual counterpart (Mega Man-style) and you fight viruses in computers while collecting battle chips. There are many spins on the classic formula, though, that both enhance and hinder the gameplay as a whole.

Demo Impressions: BioShock

Big Daddy

After playing through the demo a few times, I must say that I’m impressed. Until I played the BioShock demo, I gave credit to The Darkness as having the best console FPS graphics to date. I must say that BioShock’s (BS) graphics beat out The Darkness by a decent margin. The gameplay is intense, the story is told in real time through varied methods, and the game is also kinda freaky. The magic-like “plasmids” used in the game are fun and accompanied by good effects all around. The enemies all actually talk (minus the Big Daddies), which I wasn’t expecting, so that was kinda cool.

Usagi B-Day!

Game Usagi is no longer a source for up-to-the-second (insert laugh) Nintendo news, but rather a site dedicated to giving you opinions on games from gamers just like you, so that you know what’s going to be hot/not in the gaming industry.  Forthcoming is a new ratings system along with many game reviews/previews/views from all of the systems on the market.  This will hopefully afford us a bit of flexibility and direction, and help you more with your day-to-day gaming life.

Bleach: Shattered Blade boxart

Bleach is one of the most popular anime series in Japan, as well as quickly becoming more popular in North America. It is about a teen who becomes a shinigami (death-god) who helps souls find their way to soul society. It is an action anime with a big focus on swords.

According to 1up.com, Bleach: Shattered Blade will be released in North America on October 15, 2007. According to Amazon.com, it will be available Oct. 9,2007.

editor’s note: This has been a favorite series of mine for a long time and from what I can gather, this will be a great game. I can’t wait!

owner’s note:  I have this game in Japanese, and it is certainly one of the best interactive Bleach experiences possible.  I’m hoping that the English version will be just as good.

Possible Website Changes

Friday, July 27th, 2007

(pancake on head: a deliciously fashionable change)

Game Usagi has recently been suffering from incredibly low traffic and lack of support from it’s staff (me). I figure that this is because I am simply trying to fill a hole in gamer’s lives that is already adequately filled by sites like GoNintendo, QJ.net, and MaxConsole.net. Thus some changes must take place at Game Usagi if we are to survive the long-haul and become a viable gaming/Nintendo website. Thus, this explains the new poll that we have in the side. It’s there to help us discover what is missing in your gaming-news life that we could provide for you on a daily basis. If you have any other comments or suggestions, feel free to send them via email to one of our staff members (me preferably) or leave them in the comments section. Thanks.
