If I may weigh in for a moment:

You mentioned that you’re genuinely worried about the 3DS when stacked up against the PSV and its price. I think the true achilles heel of the 3DS is not the price or the launch lineup, I think the resolution of the screens is really going to hold it back. Especially when you compare it with modern day devices like the iphone 4 and PSP, the drastically inferior 3DS screen resolution could be its undoing.

Don’t get me wrong, I believe that the 3DS is about as powerful as a Gamecube for things such as polygon count, draw distance, lighting, shading, etc. But what good is all that raw power when you try to output it on too few pixels? Games look grainy, and the graphical prowess is somewhat muted.

Anyway, great UsagiCast, but waaaay too long. Keep it brief guys!!

Oh, by the way, you’re looking for sponsors. I’ll give you a toonie if you say “engineers rule the world” on your next UsagiCast

With the screens as physically small as they are resolution is not a big factor at all. If you get a 20″ widescreen TV, there’s absolutely no discernible difference between 1080p and 720p, and the jump down to 480p would also not be that huge of a difference from 720p. For the physical size of the 3DS screen, Nintendo is using a standard pixel count. Unless you are scraping your retinas against the screen, no one can differentiate between pixels of 192 μm (3DS screen) and 115 μm (PSV screen).

Now for the Apple Retina displays (in the iPhone 4′s and new iPod Touches), that’s a different story. Those suckers’ pixels are only 78 μm, and that’s certainly a discernible step from standard pixel size.
