The Original 151 Pokemon According To My Mom

March 26th, 2012 by

While she has never played any of the Pokemon games, my mom lived through my brother and I collecting Pokemon cards, playing the Game Boy games and Smash Bros., watching the Pokemon anime on TV, and going to the theatrical Pokemon movies.  She usually knows what we’re talking about when we discuss Pokemon, so we thought it would be amusing if we found how just how many of the original 151 Pokemon our mom could recognize from the sprite collection linked through the image above.  Read on to see what she named the original Kanto Pokemon, as well as any comments she made about them.

So, just by osmosis our mom was able to name 11/151 Pokemon correctly and get another 7 confused with one another.  That’s more that I was expecting, so I’m proud of her performance and the fanciful names she was able to give the other 133 Pokemon, especially Gyarados, the Chinese dragon named Bob.

Unfortunately, they only give you 10 characters to nickname your Pokes, I will unfortunately be running a Bamboozlesaur.

Darn, it would probably have been too much to ask my mom to stick to 10-character names. You could go with “BAMBZLSAUR” in a Farfetch’d kind of way if you were desperate, I suppose.
