WR: Star Wars The Force Unleashed (PS3/360/Wii)

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

Developer: LucasArts
Publisher: LucasArts
ESRB Rating: T (Teen)
Players: 1
Hours played: 20
Game progress: Finished game on Sith (Medium) difficulty level

Star Wars is a fickle mistress.  She makes you feel loved and good about yourself with movies like Episodes IV – VI and then when you think the wonderful relationship is over, wait! There’s hope with Episodes I – III, but promises of more prove just to be further evidence that the relationship is tired and done. It’s not that different in the game world, there are signs, mere hints that the relationship could be great with games like Rogue Squadron (next-gen follow up, please!), Knights of the Old Republic and yes, OK maybe even Lego Star Wars. But then there’s so much heart ache with the multitude of bad games that make you wonder what you’re still in it for. Well, which of the two categories does Force Unleashed fall into?  Surprisingly, a bit of both.

LittleBigPlanet A Little Early

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

So, I get a call from EB Games today saying that they have LittleBigPlanet in.  I hastily went down and purchased my copy, not really thinking about the recent delay or when the game was actually supposed to come out.  Whilst playing the game, I noticed that I couldn’t connect to the LittleBigPlanet online servers like I used to in the BETA, and was searching online for a resolution when I found out that the game isn’t out yet.  Pretty funny.  I hope I don’t get in trouble for the trophies I have earned and the attempts to get online that I’ve made.  ^_^

Pictures of the sweetness after the jump, make sure to phone up your local EB Games/GameSpot to see if they have them available! (click the pictures for bigger versions)

WR: Battlefield Bad Company (PS3/360)

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

Developer: DICE
Publisher: EA
ESRB Rating: T (Teen)
Players: 1-24
Hours Played: 20
Progress: Completed the game

The Battlefield franchise is well known to PC gamers, as it has a solid reputation amongst massive-multi-player shooters. Although not new to console gaming, the series has taken an abrupt turn to a story driven, single player game (don?t worry there is still a considerable multi-player component) with the arrival of Battlefield: Bad Company.

Warren Review: Soul Calibur 4 (PS3/360)

Friday, September 19th, 2008

Developer/Publisher: Namco
ESRB Rating: M (Mature)
Players: 1-4

Hours Played: 12
Progress:  Completed Story Mode with all characters

I still remember the original Soul Edge as one of the defining 3D fighters on the PS1. That generation spawned many great fighting games but the forerunner to what would eventually be the Soul Calibur series already set itself apart with solid fight mechanics, good graphics and weapons based combat.

Many fighting game fans have been looking forward to the next Soul Calibur addition to the series for the new generation of consoles. While the weapons based combat is still a staple of the franchise, its solid graphics, character design and innovation have won new fans over the years. The game?s innovation has come from a variety of different directions; Soul Calibur has featured an adventure-style story mode, a create-a-fighter mode and special guest characters. It is especially the latter which has garnered the series some hype and interest.

Warren Review: Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3)

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

Developer: Kojima Productions
Publisher: Konami
ESRB Rating: M (Mature)
Players: 1 (1-16 Online)

Hours Played: 30
Progress: Game completed on highest difficulty

Metal Gear Solid 4 (MGS 4) is the highly anticipated final chapter in the critically acclaimed saga that originated on the original NES and got re-popularized on the PS1. Fingered early on as a PS3 title, MSG 4 was originally mentioned as a possible launch title, however to fandom?s mass disappointment, got delayed several times during its long development time. Now that it?s finally here, does it live up to expectations, and does it adequately wrap up the engrossing, but convoluted storyline?

Warren Review: Rock Band (PS3)

Friday, August 8th, 2008

Hours Played: over 50
Progress: Completed “Endless Setlist” (gained Legendary status!)

Rock Band is the first music simulation game to encompass a full band. It allows players to play drums, guitar, bass, and sing. This is the first time drumming has come to a console (at least a full drum set unlike Taiko Drum Master or Donkey Konga). Singing is much like Sing Star and the guitar/bass is much like Guitar Hero.

This is Wish Bear

Well, E3 is once again upon us, and Microsoft had a pretty good showing today, so tomorrow morning it will be up to both Nintendo and Sony to strut their respective stuffs.  Thus, it is as good a time as any to make some predictions before everything starts happening tomorrow.  There have been very few rumours floating around before this E3, which is quite unusual.  This could either mean that big things are afoot, or that nothing much will be happening at all.  GoNintendo says that Iwatadono will be making an appearance this year, and that usually spells that something big is in the cards.  Here are my predictions/hopes split into two categories: Predictions and Pipe Dreams.
