Site Changes

October 21st, 2008 by

A few things have changes around Game Usagi, and I thought that you might want to know.  Now, we are entirely accessible through (and optimized for) cellphone (WAP) browers, iPhones/iPod touchs (pictured above), and other such mobile devices (Blackberrys, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, etc.).

In addition, our forums are now open again!  Not a lot has changed visually (there has been a lot of board shuffling) (shuffle board!  :D), but we’ve decided to keep them open while the changes are being applied so that you can experience and react to them in real time!

Also, our review copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition has arrived, so expect a review of it to come very soon to an Usagi near you.

Progress: Finished main story line (250+ quests completed)

Final Fantasy being one of the most popular Role Playing Game franchises of all time has created many a spin-off. One of the most revered is the Final Fantasy Tactics series, which began all the way back in 1998 with its US release on the PlayStation One. Since then a remake was created in 2003 for the Game Boy Advance (Final Fantasy Tactics Advance), with a further enhanced version appearing on the PSP in 2007 (Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions). October 7th, 2008 by

Developer: DICE
Publisher: EA
ESRB Rating: T (Teen)
Players: 1-24

Progress: Completed the game

The Battlefield franchise is well known to PC gamers, as it has a solid reputation amongst massive-multi-player shooters. Although not new to console gaming, the series has taken an abrupt turn to a story driven, single player game (don?t worry there is still a considerable multi-player component) with the arrival of Battlefield: Bad Company.

Well, after a terrible E3 this year, Nintendo set out to redeem themselves with this year’s Nintendo Media Summit. Did they succeed? OH HELLS YEAH!

Well, first off on the list of awesome is:  The Nintendo DSi.

It may look a lot like a DS lite, but there are a plethora of key differences (wording courtesy of GoNintendo, ’cause I’m tired :P):

  • 12%, 2.6 millimeters skinnier, no more GBA slot
  • bigger screens, better speakers, two cameras
  • screens are 3.25 inches
  • camera and audio functions
  • pictures taken can be able to be manipulated via touch screens
  • pitch and sound playback speed can be adjusted
  • SD card slot
  • store then view pics on Wii Photo Channel
  • internal memory for apps
  • built-in web browser
  • download DSi Ware with Nintendo Points (Wii points renamed)
  • apps will cost free/200/500/800 points.
  • owners that connect by March, 2010 will receive 1000 Points as a gift. (Japan)
  • Hits Japan on Nov 1st for 18900 yen
  • DS Station will go into its second phase, becoming the Nintendo Zone service.
  • service once again available at McDonalds
  • Nintendo Zone Viewer included, no setup needed
  • colors: white and frosted black
  • 6-9 hours of battery life on medium setting
  • the ability to download new apps and have them as “channels” in the main menu
  • GameBoy camera-like stuff for the cameras

Lots of Wii and regular DS news as well, but we’ll leave that for morning.

Warren Review: Soul Calibur 4 (PS3/360)

September 19th, 2008 by

Developer/Publisher: Namco
ESRB Rating: M (Mature)
Players: 1-4

Hours Played: 12
Progress:  Completed Story Mode with all characters

I still remember the original Soul Edge as one of the defining 3D fighters on the PS1. That generation spawned many great fighting games but the forerunner to what would eventually be the Soul Calibur series already set itself apart with solid fight mechanics, good graphics and weapons based combat.

Many fighting game fans have been looking forward to the next Soul Calibur addition to the series for the new generation of consoles. While the weapons based combat is still a staple of the franchise, its solid graphics, character design and innovation have won new fans over the years. The game?s innovation has come from a variety of different directions; Soul Calibur has featured an adventure-style story mode, a create-a-fighter mode and special guest characters. It is especially the latter which has garnered the series some hype and interest.

Hours Played: 30
Progress: Game completed on highest difficulty

Metal Gear Solid 4 (MGS 4) is the highly anticipated final chapter in the critically acclaimed saga that originated on the original NES and got re-popularized on the PS1. Fingered early on as a PS3 title, MSG 4 was originally mentioned as a possible launch title, however to fandom?s mass disappointment, got delayed several times during its long development time. Now that it?s finally here, does it live up to expectations, and does it adequately wrap up the engrossing, but convoluted storyline?
