Site Update: Widescreen

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

It’s been almost a decade since the widespread adoption of widescreen-format monitors and TVs.  The original theme that Game Usagi was built around in 2007 was still catering to the dying crowd of standard definition monitor owners.  Lately this has led to most people viewing Game Usagi having 1/3 of their screen filled with content and the rest with an endless sea of grey.  Now friends, feast your eyes upon an extra 100 pixels of horizontal goodness and a top banner that is only 2/3 of its recent very large size.  Trimmed down and expanded where it matters, Game Usagi is now a sleeker beast ready to give you images that aren’t squished on the front page and more page options in the navigation bar at the bottom of the site.  Enjoy.

Black Ops Achievement

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

By accident I discovered that I had achieved something quite special in Call of Duty Black Ops.  It’s not the usual kind of achievement that gives you GamerScore points or Trophies, but a wholly more awesome one.  As you can see above, in my Combat Record on Black Ops, I have made 1337 kills with my favourite weapon, the very cheap AK74u.  Now I have the dilemma of deciding whether I should keep using the gun and ruin my record or try to use other weapons.  ^_^  See after the jump for a detail of the awesometude.

April Fools’! — Welcome the Unagi

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

Hey, ya’ll. Just a little rebranding going on here at Game Unagi due to our recent takeover by Unagicorp, Ltd. from Japan. We’ll still be providing the same quality reviews and otaku opinions as always, just under a new banner and with better funding. It’s been fun so far and thanks for sticking with us during this time of change. Our URLs and the like will be fully switched over in a couple of days, but we’ll let you know when to change your bookmarks ahead of time.

For those wondering, unagi is the Japanese word for freshwater eel.

You can see screenshots of our website Unagi-fied after the jump.

New Usagi Features!

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

Just a heads-up on a few new features around the site. In our sidebar, you may notice two lovely new buttons for a couple of our supplementary website sections, Usagi Comix and Usagicast. These buttons are enlarged above for your admiration, etc.

The second part of the news is that both of these sites/sections now have their very own URLs! Some of you may already have noticed, but now usagicast.com and usagicomix.com will lead you to their respective sources. usagigames.com will also just bounce you back to our homepage. Nothing like keeping a hold on your intellectual property. 😀

I also promise that properly drawn and even funnier Usagi Comix are on their way. It’s just taking some time to get the new style and new… everything in order. If you check out the website, all of the old comics and fan comics are there, it’s just a nice new layout with sweet archival features now!

Final Fantasy Tactics is possibly the best Final Fantasy to ever be released. There are flaws, but they take NOTHING away from the game’s enjoyability. A wonderful story, amazing gameplay, and tons of jobs and skills to work with.  So you don’t have to sit and read 3 pages of a single review, I’ll tell you in a moderately short amount of reading why this classic game is a must own for Final Fantasy fans and casual gamers alike.

Usagi Issues

Monday, February 16th, 2009

sickusagi

We just updated to WordPress 2.7.1, and the nice automatic upgrader somehow killed my front page and backups.  Thus, I am having to rebuild the front page from scratch, which I shall do after work today, closer to 12:00 am CST.  Thanks for your understanding, and the Usagi will be as good as new in no time.

Developer: Treyarch

Players: 1-4 (16 online)
Console: Xbox 360, PS3, PC
ESRB Rating: M (Mature)
Hours Played: ~ 20 hours
Progress: Finished single player, played every map in online multiplayer.

The first-person shooter genre is over saturated, no doubt. However, as in so many other aspects of life, competition makes for greatness. Being a multiplayer gamer, my journey to figure out exactly which game I would devote my gaming life to was an arduous one, but alas, as in war, victory was won by pure grit and determination. Enter Call of Duty: World at War (CODWAW). With grit in the pure visceral impact of every second of the single player campaign, you can feel the determination of Treyarch to make one of the largest games of last year. War is hell, and hell is here.
