Nintendo Humble Bundle Live!

Tuesday, May 26th, 2015

A surprising and excellent move from Nintendo today as they team up with Humble Bundle to allow gamers to pay what they want for a bunch of indie games for Wii U and 3DS.  This is the first ever console-specific Humble Bundle and if Nintendo can do it we can probably expect to see bundles from Sony and Microsoft in the near future.

The charity this campaign is supporting is code.org that seeks to expand Computer Science education in both elementary and high schools around the world.

So, if you’d like some indie games for Nintendo systems on the cheap, or with the added bonus of donating to charity, you can pick up the bundle here.

yoshi-woolly-amiibo

Nintendo’s Direct presentation was as good as ever.  Nothing mind-blowingly out of left field except for the sudden announcement of the return of Lucas to Smash Bros and maybe the plush Yoshi’s Woolly World amiibos as pictured above, but lots of interesting and neat new information.  Read on for an edited copy of Nintendo’s own summary of the event.

April Fools Nintendo Direct Inbound

Tuesday, March 31st, 2015

nintendo-direct-april15

In classic Nintendo fashion, Nintendo announced today that at 4:00pm CST tomorrow they’re going to announce a bunch of real news in the midst of all the jokes that will be floating around the web.  Nintendo historically likes doing this for some reason, but whatever that reason is ? colour us excited.  Don’t be pulling for any NX or Zelda Wii U news, but expect more info on Yoshi’s Woolly World, Splatoon, and hopefully North American wave 4 amiibos.  We’ll have our usual summary after the event with the coolest news of the day, so stay tuned!

You’ll be able to watch the Nintendo Direct presentation when it goes live right here.

gold-mario-amiibo-smallWith Mario Party 10 launching for the Wii U this Friday, Nintendo Canada announced today that the Gold Mario Amiibo that is being sold exclusively at Walmarts in the US will be available from a number of retailers in Canada on April 10th.  Amazon.ca preorders are already sold out, but keep an eye out for them in other places now that they’re officially making the trek to the Great White North.

Nintendo’s Next System – Code Name: NX

Wii U GamePad Prototype

Along with announcing their intentions to develop straight-up smartphone games and launching a proper console-independent user system (like all of their competitors have), Nintendo announced the code name for their next home console today, the “NX”.

It’s already a better name than “Wii U” and we’re definitely happy that we can make jokes about Nintendo attempting to NX the game industry now.  No new details about the next system are known, but as with the pre-Wii U days Nintendo has been dropping hints ? this time about the possibility of unifying the mobile and home console branches into a single system of some sort.

New details about the NX are supposed to come next year, so while we may not hear much extra at this year’s E3, Nintendo will likely start to let tantalizing details slip until we get a proper formal announcement about its form and features.

We’ll keep you posted on any other developments regarding Nintendo’s NX-t big thing.

nintendo-direct-spring-2015

Tomorrow, January 14th at 8:00am CST Nintendo will air a Nintendo Direct with info pertaining to this Spring’s Wii U and 3DS releases.  Hoping for proper (and soon) release dates for the New 3DS and Majora’s Mask 3DS as well as an announcement of the New 3DS Ambassador program for North America and hopefully a couple of releases in the currently mostly empty Q1 2015 season.

We’ll have our usual summary posted here after the Direct airs so that everyone knows what went down.

Nintendo of America HQ Visit 2014

Our other stop on our 1200+ kilometre trip to Redmond, WA was of course Nintendo of America HQ.  Unlike Microsoft, Nintendo doesn’t except casual visitors of any kind on their property.  We were able to catch a few rare pictures when we showed up and no one was home on Labor Day, but when we went back to try to talk our way into the company store to buy some rare swag we were (fairly politely) told to get the crap out of there because they have a “closed campus”.  All we managed to snag was one of the business cards they have at their reception desk.  We can only hope that Nintendo rethinks their current PR policy at their headquarters some day and once again lets people in to buy cool rare Nintendo stuff.
