Gran Turismo 5 has been out for over three months, yet sometimes waiting a while to post your review is a good thing. You see, there have been a number of patches to tweak the game since its initial launch that are very telling about the latest installment of this venerable racing franchise. Having played the game for many hours spread over several weeks has given us great perspective on this important PS3 release and, hey…considering Gran Turismo 5 was first announced in 2006 and has been in development for over four years you’ll have to forgive us for taking a few months in finalizing our opinion on it.

The original Killzone (released for PlayStation 2) was a good concept but the franchise really didn’t take its place amongst the upper echelons of FPS games until the sequel arrived on the PS3. With stunning visuals, intense shooter combat and a comprehensive multiplayer mode it became a flagship title for Sony’s console. Two years later lo and behold, the third iteration is finally here! WR: Fallout: New Vegas (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)

Almost exactly 2 years to the day Bethesda  published the follow-up to Fallout 3, one of the best open-world RPGs of this console generation. This time around the developer is not Bethesda Game Studios however, but Obsidian Entertainment, a group not unfamiliar with taking over a “grade A” franchise, see their development of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II for instance. Now observant people might recall that although decent, KOTOR II didn’t outshine its predecessor, so what about Fallout: New Vegas, did Obsidian manage to elevate it to new heights? Progress: Finished season championship in 1st place

Disney Interactive and Black Rock Studio team up once again to give us another original take on the racing genre. Split/Second combines the framework of a traditional arcade racer with a gameplay mechanic that allows you to trigger explosions within the track that can take down opponents and open route changes. High speeds, realistic graphics, an epic score and earth shattering explosions promise an intense racing experience.  Read on to see if this promise holds true…

Progress: Completed main story, discovered The Truth, collected all weapons/armour, stabbed a bunch of people in the face

The first Assassin’s Creed, even though riddled with bugs and repetition was a unique and deep enough experience that it sold quite well and brought a good amount of solid gaming hours to everyone who played it.  Looking to fix some of the mistakes of the past, Ubisoft Montreal set out to make a more fleshed-out Assassin’s Creed experience while continuing the intriguing (and somewhat convoluted) story-line and helping us discover The Truth.  You can find out about whether or not their efforts were in vain after the jump.
