Developer: Atlus
Publisher: Atlus
Genre: RPG
Players: 1
Console: PSP
ESRB Rating: M (Mature)
Hours Played: 150 (no, that’s not a typo)
Progress: Finished the game

The Persona franchise is a popular series by the RPG aficionados at Atlus. What makes it different from many of its counterparts is that it is set in a contemporary Japan instead of Tolkien-esque fantasy worlds or post-apocalyptic futures. The fact that it centers around a group of high school students, though, is not particularly different considering that every other game produced and published by a Japanese software company seems to involve uniform-clad highschoolers. Persona 3 Portable (P3P) offers a hand-held remake of the excellent PS2 title, Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3, with additional content in the form of a new playable female character and unique story segments.  So how does this franchise fare on Sony’s portable console? Read on to find out….

Nintendo 3DS Revealed! [update]

[update: added more pics]

Well, the 3DS has been revealed.  The FCC leaked board turned out to be real, as the top screen is wider than the bottom and the system does have a control nub like the PSPs.  One trailer of actual gameplay was shown for a new Kid Icarus game called Kid Icarus Uprising.  The graphics are essentially GCN/Wii graphics, looking very complex and well-shaded.  Here are are couple early product shots and a fact sheet, I’ll try to get a hold of Kid Icarus footage for you too:

WR: Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters (PSP)

Developer: High Impact Games
Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment
Genre: Third-Person Action
Platform: PS2, PSP (Reviewed on PSP)
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone 10+)
Players: 1 (1-4 Online)
Hours Played: 15 hours
Game Progress: Finished single player twice

Before I bought a PSP I was checking out reviews of games online to see which were the best titles. I wanted to make sure my starting library was top notch. I ended up getting Killzone, God of War and Resistance along with the Ratchet and Clank PSP bundle. Least to say I was stoked to get home and start playing some of those games, I didn’t really care much for Ratchet at the time. I figured I’d play Ratchet first just to get the game out of the way, I mean it came with the bundle and was at least worth a try, right? That was about two weeks ago and I have barely touched any of the games I had purchased separately. Fifteen hours into the game, I have finished the single player game twice, played online matches against other people and still have items to collect and weapons to upgrade. Size has always mattered, you just won’t realize it until you play Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters.

Classics: Star Wars Battlefront II (PC, Xbox, PS2, PSP)

swbattlefront2

Developer: Pandemic Studios
Publisher: LucasArts
Players: 1-4 (Xbox, PS2) (32 online)
              1 (PC) (64 online)
              1 (PSP)
Genre: Third-person shooter
ESRB Rating: T (Teen)
Hours Played: over 30
Progress: Beat main campaign mode

Most sequels to games are inferior to the originals. They don’t add enough to the series to be considered as good as the one that started it all. Battlefront II is not one of these games. Star Wars Battlefront brought something entirely new to the gaming world (and the Star Wars world for that matter). Through Battlefront II, you are able to play as a regular infantryman through famous Star Wars battles like the Battle of Geonosis, and even change their outcome. For example, you can have the Empire win the Battle of Endor, even though in the movies they lost it. Battlefront was a great game, but the sequel was even better.

Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)
Players: 1-2 (1-8 online)
Hours Played: 30+
Game Progress: Completed all campaigns

When WipEout HD, which has been out for a while now, was first announced it didn?t exactly stir us with an abundant sense of expectation.  How could a game that is not only a downloadable title, but also a port of a handheld game (WipEout Pure and WipEout Pulse on the PSP to be exact) inspire any anticipation? Well, you?ll be pleased to learn that WipEout HD is not only one of the best games available on the Playstation Network but also one of the best high speed racers, period.

Usagi News! Nov. 15th

Saturday, November 15th, 2008

It’s food time! It’s also time for your weekly dose of cute cuddly gaming news which comes in the form of Usagi Meta News. The highlights this week are:

Halo 3 Recon

Halo 3 Recon has a shorter single player campaign and price tag. The campaign is said to be around three to five hours and the price tag should be under $60. The Recon armor which is pretty well exclusive to Bungie staff members and a few select others will now be available when you purchase Recon, so be ready for everyone to look like you once Recon hits shelves.

Gears of War 2

Gears 2 has sold an incredible two million worldwide on its opening weekend. Not only were Gears of War 2 sales incredibly high but also the amount of people who were logged into Xbox Live on Gears of War 2?s opening weekend, 1.5 million users to be a little more exact. Were you really that shocked?

Console and Game sales:

Though Gears of War will come close to the top in game sales this month, Fable 2 (360) took its piece of cake and ate it too with almost 800,000 sold in October.  Wii Fit was choking on dust in 2nd place at about 487,000 sales and Fallout 3 taking 3rd with 375,000.

Console wise, the Wii is the little bunny that could.  Wii sales have gone up just over 100,000 since September when it sold 687,000 units. Last month the PS3 sold 190,000 units, 360 with 371,000 units and PSP with 193,000 units, combined they could not overcome the tiny console; it appears size doesn?t matter.

Since we are on the topic of sales, Ubisoft?s Far Cry 2 has sold one million copies Worldwide over three weeks. Looks like Fallout 3 isn?t on everyone?s mind for open world gameplay.

Blizzard?s new MMO:

World of Warcraft?s developer Blizzard has announced they are working on a ?next generation? MMO. I?m curious to see if this means they could be working on an entirely new IP, because it sounds like they are moving away from producing another Warcraft title. Check out the interview between Blizzard COO Paul Sams and VG247 for the full story.
