Movie Review: Ratatouille

The primary purpose of reviews are to provide the audience/consumer with an educated and critical opinion of the item in question. Seeing as how this is the case, I may not seem to be doing my job effectively. This is because I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this spectacular movie.

Pixar has always been a favourite company of mine. It’s led by your average nerd-types that remind me a lot of myself and the people I hang around. In addition to the constantly wonderful computer animated features that Pixar is famous for, they also head all of the dubbing and localization of the anime movies from Studio Ghibli published in North America under the Disney moniker. Perhaps the only movie production company that I adore more than Pixar is Ghibli. Thus it would be very hard to get me to say anything bad about a Pixar film. In spite of this, the purpose of this review is to impart on you the brilliance of this movie, even for people who perhaps abhor the world of CG movies.

Pixar’s last foray into the realm of feature films, Cars, while being a good movie, was only average compared to the masterpieces like Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, and Monster’s Inc. After Disney’s recent full acquisition of Pixar, I’m sure more than a few people (including myself) were afraid that the Disney company’s influence would start seeping into Pixar’s work, and eventually conclude with Pixar making full-length 3D romps with overly anthropomorphic mice, ducks, and dogs. Luckily, this isn’t the case at all. Pixar has maintained 110% of their integrity and Ratatouille has made it so that I cannot wait for the next Pixar epic, WALL-E.

In lieu of providing a plot summary for the movie, which I have always maintained just ruins the experience anyway, I will once again say that, chances are you’ll love this movie.  I admit to having cried at the end.  This was the first Pixar movie to ever hold that kind of emotional weight with me.  ^_^
