Game Usagi has been undergoing a lot of changes in anticipation for our 3rd birthday on May 1st.  The first and biggest change is that logging in to comment on Game Usagi has been significantly stream-lined.  You can now use your Google, Yahoo!, Facebook, Twitter, OpenID or Windows Live ID to log-in and it will automatically set you up with a GameUsagi account and enable one-click logging in from then on.  It’s good to know what’s been going on, so here’s what else been changed at Game Usagi recently:

PS3 HDMI Cable

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Cost: $10.99 US
Length: 6 ft.
Manufacturer: ps3hdmicable.com

With the gaming market trending very quickly to HD audio and visuals, we find ourselves in need of a lot more equipment to get the most out of our games.  I myself have purchased HD TVs, surround sound systems/headphones, PC gaming rigs, and video game systems all to take advantage of the higher resolution and clarity offered with cutting-edge technology.  Well, even if you have all of the fancy gadgets, you’re still going to need a ton of cables to hook everything together.  With all of the cables to buy, it’s best if you can get them on the cheap, as long as it doesn’t risk reducing the all-mighty clarity that your system will produce in the end.  We recently had a budget-priced HDMI cable (that of course works on all HDMI-compatible devices) sent to us for review, so read on to see how it fared.

WR: Assassin’s Creed II (360, PS3, PC)

Assassin's Creed 2

Developer: Ubisoft Montreal
Publisher: Ubisoft
Genre: 3rd-Person Action-Adventure
Players: 1
Console: Xbox 360, PS3, PC
ESRB Rating: M (Mature)
Hours Played: ~ 30 hours
Progress: Completed main story, discovered The Truth, collected all weapons/armour, stabbed a bunch of people in the face

The first Assassin’s Creed, even though riddled with bugs and repetition was a unique and deep enough experience that it sold quite well and brought a good amount of solid gaming hours to everyone who played it.  Looking to fix some of the mistakes of the past, Ubisoft Montreal set out to make a more fleshed-out Assassin’s Creed experience while continuing the intriguing (and somewhat convoluted) story-line and helping us discover The Truth.  You can find out about whether or not their efforts were in vain after the jump.

April Fools’! — Welcome the Unagi

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

Hey, ya’ll. Just a little rebranding going on here at Game Unagi due to our recent takeover by Unagicorp, Ltd. from Japan. We’ll still be providing the same quality reviews and otaku opinions as always, just under a new banner and with better funding. It’s been fun so far and thanks for sticking with us during this time of change. Our URLs and the like will be fully switched over in a couple of days, but we’ll let you know when to change your bookmarks ahead of time.

For those wondering, unagi is the Japanese word for freshwater eel.

You can see screenshots of our website Unagi-fied after the jump.

Usagi Revisited [update]

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

usagi buttons

As you may notice, we have undergone some cosmetic changes as of late.  We’re proud to announce that Game Usagi is now 100% flash-free making it more friendly for iPad and Nintendo DS browsers and also loading 15% more quickly.

Our Twitter feed is now also Javascript-powered, again making it both faster and more usable.

Perhaps the most drastic change we’ve made is to Usagi Comix which now sports a whole-new design, you can check it out by clicking the image below:

Usagi Comix can now also be reached at its very own domain name:

http://usagicomix.com

Hope you’re enjoying the changes as much as we are, drop us a line if you have any additional suggestions for the future of Game Usagi!

DS wireframe

Just a wireframe of the DS lite, not the 3DS

Nintendo officially announced today that they have a brand-new successor for the DS line in the works for release within the next financial year, the Nintendo 3DS.  The lid will be blown off of the system at this year’s E3 on June 15th, so until then we just have a couple of facts that Nintendo has officially shared and some conjecture based on their unofficial statements and those of developers that are apparently already using the new system’s dev kits.  A shortlist of 3DS facts and conjecture can be seen after the jump.

Metroid: Other M Screens [update 2]

picture-7

Thought that this game was cool enough to include a couple of screen-grabs of.  We will still be reviewing the E3 Conferences, but we’re going to wait until after the Sony conference to pass judgement.  For now, enjoy the awesomeness that is Metroid developed by Team Ninja (click all pics to enlarge, they’re not the best quality ’cause they’re grabs from the trailer):

Added GDC 2010 screenshots and art at bottom of page after the jump (the images are high-resolution, so give them a second to load).
