Point Review: Fertang (iOS/Android)

Both the App Store and Google Play are awash with Chess and Checkers games.  Some may look better or load faster than others, some are even in 3D, but they all basically offer you the same two games that humanity has been playing for centuries.  This is where the new app Fertang comes in.  Claiming to be a pleasant and refreshing mix of chess and checkers, Fertang is vying for a place on our phones and in our hearts as our new strategy board game of choice.  Is this app as fun to play as it is to say or is it just another thrown-together money grab trying to capitalize on today’s healthy app market?  Read on to see what we think.

Progress: Completed all 420 levels as well as all of the currently available weekly bonus levels in Gold time

5th Cell is no stranger to making compelling mobile games with the Scribblenauts and Drawn to Life series under their belts. Run Roo Run, their first original iOS game, debuted with the infamous $0.99 price tag. Is this just a money grab trying to take advantage of the healthy App Store market, or is it another unique and engaging experience from 5th Cell?  Find out after the jump.

The fine folks at Limbic Software have made a full game out of this great gameplay sequence and instead of blowing up nondescript Eastern Europeans, players will have the honor of blowing up hordes of zombies. We all love having that game that totally shows off the graphical prowess of your system, the one that epitomizes what next-gen gaming is all about. It is rare however to associate any such games with a platform like the iPhone, but Apple’s ubiquitous phone is no longer a fledgling gaming device and no stronger example exists than Epic Games’ new title Infinity Blade. With 58000 apps available on the iPad app store alone, there is a lot of chaff to wade through to get to the wheaty goodness of really good apps.  If an app doesn’t become one of the top few for total number of downloads, it can often fade into obscurity regardless of its quality or utility.  We recently got our hands on a copy of the digital photography portfolio suite MediaPad Pro for the iPad.  Does MediaPad Pro rise above the usual app fodder into the realm of actual utility?  Read more to find out.
