Game Usagi is no longer a source for up-to-the-second (insert laugh) Nintendo news, but rather a site dedicated to giving you opinions on games from gamers just like you, so that you know what’s going to be hot/not in the gaming industry. Forthcoming is a new ratings system along with many game reviews/previews/views from all of the systems on the market. This will hopefully afford us a bit of flexibility and direction, and help you more with your day-to-day gaming life.

P.S. (!!!) Please vote on a new slogan for the site in the poll on the side >>>

Nintendo’s conference this year seemed to be laden with stats (now that Nintendo’s owning in all of them), but there were a few unexpected revelations that presented themselves today that made this E3 special. With three new Wii peripherals, and a bunch of solidified release dates, Nintendo did not disappoint their loyal fans.

In May, Nintendo sold 251,794 Wii’s in Japan. This is compared to Sony’s 45,321 PS3’s. It’s nearly 5 Wii’s to 1 PS3. In April, the ratio was 4 to 1. Also, in overall sales of Wii vs. PS3 in Japan – the Wii has sold about 2.5x more than the PS3.
The DS is also outselling the PSP about 3 to 1.
All I have to say is: 🙂

There’s a buzz on the internet about Nintendo holding a press event on May 22nd and 23rd. This is slightly reminiscent of the good old Nintendo Spaceworld conference that Nintendo held back in the day. Apparently, we can expect some third-party news as well as a slew of information on Smash Bros. Brawl and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Apparently 6 PM PST is the time on the 22nd to be on the look-out for news. Game Usagi will keep you updated on any more info regarding this supposed conference.

Most people are aware of how Nintendo is dominating the charts in Japan, but what we don’t often see is the sales figures for the rest of the world. Luckily for you, the sales figures from April for USA and Canada have been released as well. (We still don’t have the totals for Europe, but we do have the top games from the UK). Judging from the April sales figures, Nintendo’s back.

Rumour has it that Nintendo Power is on it’s way out and that it’s staff has been told to seek different employment starting in September. Apparently layoffs are already underway. The magazine has been waning in popularity due in large part to sites like this that supply the news much faster than even an official publication can. Perhaps Nintendo Power will switch to being an online-only magazine? As of right now, no one knows. I’m certainly sad because NP has been my #1 source of Nintendo posters and t-shirts over the years. Game Usagi will keep you updated on any further news as it arises.

It turns out that the rumours regarding Nintendo of America’s imminent move were only partially true. It’s still up in the air as to where they’re moving, but only ~80 employees are moving. These 80 employees comprise Nintendo’s sales, marketing, and advertising teams. So, NOA is essentially “splitting” instead of moving. Most of NOA is staying right where it is.
