Nintendo has a good showing with their Nintendo Direct@E3 2013 showcase this morning.  New details were given for many of their highest profile first and third party games and the new Smash Bros. was shown running on the Wii U and the 3DS along with three of the characters being introduced in the game: Mega Man, Villager from Animal Crossing, and the female Wii Fit Trainer (hopefully the only random choice this time around in a similar vein to ROB and Mr. Game & Watch).

The rest of the details released today were as follows:

E3 2013 Day #1 Summary

June 11th, 2013 by

Perhaps the most memorable E3 conference day of all time happened today.  We’ll have a handy list of what we learned about the Xbox One, PS4, and other various sundry future game products up soon, but for now the single biggest news of the day: PS4 will not have any of the hated game restrictions of the Xbox One and will retail for a full $100 less at $399.99.

With a 500 GB HDD, a faster architecture than the Xbox One, no forced (or initially included) camera peripheral, huge indie support, the ability to share/sell used games, the ability to play offline indefinitely, and all of the long-standing benefits of PlayStation Plus (except that it’s now required to play multiplayer online *shrug*) the PS4 well and truly blew the Xbox One out of the water today, even considering the fact that the excellent-looking Titanfall from ex-Infinity Ward studio Respawn Entertainment is exclusive to the Xbox One and PC.  Unless Microsoft seriously rethinks its life and does a complete 180 on its policies, we definitely know which console we’ll be buying first for the office.

Xbox One Reveal Video Parodies

May 22nd, 2013 by

It’s no secret among the non-mainstream media that Microsoft’s unveiling of the Xbox One yesterday was an unmitigated disaster.  Aside from a promising controller, the greatest result of the media event has been the numerous excellent parodies that put into perspective just how much of a misstep for Microsoft it really was.  In addition to the amazingly apt clip from Fresh Prince put forth by Kotaku user FizzyWomack, check after the jump for three more great videos (and loads of potential Game Usagi points!).

Xbox One Reveal Summary

Microsoft laid down a similar number of cards to those laid out by Sony with their PS4 reveal earlier this February, but whose cards are better?  Honestly, from what has been shown at this point Sony has the more gamer- and game-centric console with specs more likely to result in games of a graphic fidelity completely unachievable on current gen consoles.  With that said, here’s the news that was released today along with an image gallery of the highest resolution images of the Xbox One that we could get a hold of (remember to right-click the images and choose “Open Link in New Tab” to see the images at their maximal resolution):

Xbox One Announced, Proper Games Mostly Ignored

xboxone-controller

Microsoft announced the first few details of the Xbox One today and to be honest it’s not looking amazing as far as gamers are concerned.  The controller has been slimmed down a bit (and features rumble in its triggers of all places), but almost all Microsoft talked about today was watching TV, movies, and sports programs.  We’ll have some more info itemized for you tonight on everything we learned about the Xbox One today, but until then enjoy these pictures and check out a replay of the media briefing here if you missed it.
