Zen Pinball 2 and its inexplicably numerous variations on just about every currently available platform is about as ubiquitous as a pinball platform could possibly be.  In most of its forms, the core Zen Pinball 2 platform is free with extremely protracted demos of a few available tables included, so you’re expected to purchase packs of pinball tables to get any real gaming experience out of the game.  The first three of ten planned Star Wars themed DLC pinball tables for the Zen Pinball 2 suite were launched recently with designs based on Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, the character Boba Fett and the animated TV series The Clone Wars.  Is the Force with this first batch of pinball tables or do they belong to the ever-growing dark side of licensed Star Wars video games? Read on to see how we liked our pinball Jedi training.

Current Retail Price: $57.99

“What does a desk lamp have to do with gaming?”, you may well ask.  I will answer with another question, “Where do you keep your gaming computer?”  Chances are that if you have a gaming PC tower it’s going to be on (or under) a desk.  Failing that, there should certainly be some part of some room in your home that at least occasionally needs to be illuminated beyond what light occurs there naturally.  This is where the NuGreen LED Desk Lamp comes in.  We’d been looking for a replacement for the old fashioned bankers lamp that had illuminated our PC gaming desk for quite some time and were intrigued when the NuGreen showed up on our doorstep.  Was our time with the NuGreen illuminating or did it leave us in the dark?  Read on to find out.

We hope you enjoyed your April Fools yesterday.  While not as over-the-top as some previous years, we had fun writing a script that utilized the wonderful Meowbify website to convert all of our images into cat gifs and we hope you enjoyed them too.  Now to start planning for next year…

USB hubs are certainly not bleeding edge technology, but with USB 3.0 becoming increasingly common in both computers and new USB devices the one or two USB 3.0 ports you get on your computers are hardly enough to run all of your speedy new USB 3.0 devices.  Luckily enough, USB 3.0 hubs have come down in price quite a bit lately, so there are many different kinds to choose from.  Anker was kind enough to send us a review unit of their “Uspeed USB 3.0 7 Port Hub + 1 Charging Port” that sports some interesting features including an external power plug and a special burgundy charging port that supplies an above-average number of amps to charge USB devices more expediently.   Did our testing of this USB hub leave us wired or tired?  Read on to find out.

A Dialogue With SimCity

March 8th, 2013 by

simcityerror

I brought home the new SimCity today and was excited to put on my mayor’s cap and get started.  Unfortunately, SimCity was not on board with my plans and effectively employed every possible obstruction available to ensure that I would not in fact play a single-player game that I blew $65 on.

For the record, the following dialogue is a part of the actual conversation that I had with SimCity on March 6th, 2013:

NuGuard KX iPhone 4/4S/5 Case

March 8th, 2013 by

nuguard_kx_roulette

There are a lot of cases on the market for iPhones that protect them by surrounding them in thick metal, rubber, or both.  These cases, while utilitarian to some degree, always add an ungodly amount of bulk to your once sleek and portable device.  For many consumers, including myself, a huge bulky phone is too high of a price to pay for ultimate protection and peace of mind.  Newer Technology is attempting to bridge the gap between inconveniently bulky protective cases and the sleeker, less protective ones that many opt for instead with their NuGuard KX Protective Case line for the iPhone 4, 4S, and 5.  So is their new case as tough as nails or like nails on a chalkboard?  Find out what we thought about our time with the NuGuard KX after the jump.
