Nintendo GDC 2011 Keynote Details

Nintendo had their GDC 2011 Keynote presentation today and announced quite a few things that were a pleasant surprise for both the 3DS and the Wii. Here are the highlights for y’all:

  • Netflix is coming to the 3DS this summer, wooooo!
  • 3D video content on the way in the form of Hollywood movie trailers, game trailers, and short videos
  • Hinted once again at 3D video recording coming to the 3DS
  • GameGear and Turbografx-16 games added to the Virtual Console list for 3DS, with around 5 GG games available at the launch of eShop
  • Confirmed that many old VC games will be getting 3D overhauls for the 3DS
  • Late May will bring the eShop, the NetFront Web Browser, and the ability to transfer DSiware games off of DSis and onto the 3DS
  • First screens from the upcoming brand-new Super Mario game for the 3DS, note the tanuki tail in the logo at the bottom of the page.
  • New footage of Zelda: Skyward Sword looking basically the same, but showing new enemies and puzzles

Official NA 3DS Launch Titles Announced

Nintendo has finally released an official list of the games that will be available at launch for the 3DS on March 27th.  The official price for the first-party games is $39.95 in both US and Canada:

    Usagi News: Pet Usagi in Professor Layton 3DS

    Good news for usagi lovers everywhere, the Professor Layton game coming out for the Nintendo 3DS will feature a pet usagi that you can apparently do Nintendogs-like things with. Hurray for 3D usagi cuteness! Check out the video above for a gameplay video with the game’s adorable usagi companion.

    Sony NGP Gameplay Montage [update]

    Here’s an NGP video that you can watch in up to 720p from Sony’s press conference held recently to announce their new portable system coming out this holiday season. This is the best way available right now to see some of the graphical capabilities of the NGP. We’ll let you know when screenshots start to be released. Enjoy.

    Sony’s Next Generation Portable Details

    Sony had their conference launch conference for their upcoming handheld that will battle Nintendo’s 3DS in the dead of the North American night last night, so here are the details on both the PSP2 (now officially known under its working name “Next Generation Portable”/NGP) and a new service called “Playstation Suite”:

    • Playstation Suite allows devs to port PS1 games to Android-based smartphones

    The NGP:

    • Will be able to play content made in Playstation Suite
    • Will be able to play downloadable PSP games from the current generation
    • Has built-in wireless N, 3G, and GPS network capabilities
    • Will no longer use UMDs, now using flash-based SD card-like cartridges that will hold the game, its save file, and any DLC that comes out for the game (see picture of cartridge in gallery at the bottom of the page)
    • Will be out this Christmas season in Japan (and possibly worldwide).
