UPDATE: S-owned-y (MGS4 to 360, and maybe Wii)

Metal Gear Solid 4

Sony just got owned once again. Metal Gear Solid 4 now joins the ranks of Assassin’s Creed, Devil May Cry 4, GTA IV, Haze, and other PS3 games that were supposed to be exclusive. MGS4 will now be making it’s way to the Xbox 360 (release date has yet to be determined). Not only that, but a downgraded Wii version is also being discussed with Nintendo as you are reading this article! You know that there’s something wrong with Sony’s hold on exclusives when their biggest upcoming title gets developed for both of the competing consoles as well. Well, at least I’ll be able to pick up the game now. ^_^

UPDATE: GoNintendo doesn’t seem to think that it’ll ever come out for the Wii. *shrug*

Nintendo = World Domination

Nintendo World

Most people are aware of how Nintendo is dominating the charts in Japan, but what we don’t often see is the sales figures for the rest of the world. Luckily for you, the sales figures from April for USA and Canada have been released as well. (We still don’t have the totals for Europe, but we do have the top games from the UK). Judging from the April sales figures, Nintendo’s back.

Namco Bandai logo

In a recent Forbes report, Namco Bandai outlined the extent of their support for the big three video game systems on the market. Within the next fiscal year, Namco Bandai plans to release 23 PS3 games, 24 Xbox 360 games, and 37 Wii games. (Some of these will probably end up being VC titles) We now know who’s the winner in Namco Bandai’s mind. 😉

Jack Thompson. Need I Say More?

You Don't Know Jack

Guess what? Jack Thompson is mad about something. No! Really! While I know that this is unusual, the basic story goes that Jack Thompson is upset about the upcoming Wendy’s Wii toys. I’ll give you a minute to calm down. … Okay, so anyway, here’s the direct quote from an email that he sent to Wendy’s CEO Kerri Anderson:

“A dear friend of mine worked for Wendy?s and with Dave Thomas closely for years. From that I know that Dave Thomas never would have tolerated the use of Wendy?s good name to promote Nintendo?s Wii, not with this game available on the Wii platform.”

The game he’s refering to is Manhunt 2. A fairly decently graphic game that is being ported to the Wii pretty soon. I wonder why he didn’t complain about the Xbox 360 toys that came free in cereal a while back because GTA IV is coming to the 360…

Spring Update May '07

The spring update that was reportedly supposed to come out yesterday has been qualified to come out during “the week of May 7th”.  So, we’ll still see it sometime this week, hopefully.  Some additions to the 360 associated with the spring update are:

? A richer Achievement notification pop-up will showcase the name of the unlocked Achievement and the gamerscore value without needing to leave the game to check the Achievements list.
? Enhanced family settings features for Xbox LIVE communications enable different defaults for video chat and voice chat.
? A new Xbox LIVE Marketplace blade lets Xbox LIVE members access the content they seek ? whether it is game content or TV shows and movies (available in the United States) ? from one place on Xbox LIVE.
? Updates to Xbox LIVE Arcade allow owners to quickly see which Xbox LIVE Arcade games their friends are playing and join in the fun. Xbox LIVE members can also compare progress of leaderboard scores and Achievements directly with all friends on their friends list. Expanded Tell a Friend capabilities make it easier than ever to boast about Achievements and high scores.
? A new option in Auto Downloads provides faster access to the entire collection of free, trial-version Xbox LIVE Arcade games.
? New progressive download controls provide easy access to optimal viewing options by letting people fast-forward, rewind, pause and resume as their video is downloaded from Xbox LIVE Marketplace.
? Extension of the background download functionality will allow owners to set their Xbox 360 console to turn off automatically after downloads are complete.

Plus many more.  We’ll let you know when it goes live.
